Standard medications come in fixed, mass-produced doses that don't suit every patient. We can prepare a prescription at the exact strength your provider specifies — useful for pediatric and geriatric patients, for animals where dosing varies widely by size and species, or any time the commercial dose isn't quite right.

When swallowing a pill is difficult — or impossible, as with many animals — we can reformulate the same medication into a more practical form: a flavored liquid or chew, a topical cream or gel, a troche, or a capsule. The medication stays the same; the way it's taken changes to fit the patient.

Many commercial medications contain dyes, preservatives, gluten, lactose, or other fillers that some patients can't tolerate. We can compound a formulation without those nonessential ingredients, leaving only what the patient actually needs.

An ingredient that's harmless to one patient can be a problem for another — a known allergen for a person, or a substance toxic to a particular species, such as xylitol in dogs. We compound with the intended patient in mind, so the formulation is appropriate for who's actually taking it.

When a treatment plan calls for several medications, we can often combine compatible ingredients into a single preparation — reducing the number of doses, simplifying a complex regimen, and making it easier to stay on track.
